This was the first bit of garb I made for Dafydd, so is The doublet has hook and eye front closures , tie in sleeves and is made from cotton velveeteen, lined with tafetta. The 16thC elizabethan cloak was couched with metallic gold and silver thread. It was sewn, in secret, while Dafydd was still living in Stahlburg. I gave it to him as a present not long before we got engaged. It is of matching velveteen with black faustian lining. (Dafydd's heraldic colours are black, purple and white). It's pattern is based on Fig 251 from Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion - short cloak in red satin, lined with linen. c 1600-1620 from the Germanisches National Museum. |
