Hat workshop.

Italian Pillbox.

Using a pillbox base, made of buckram, millenry wire was sewn around the base giving it strength. Black cotton velveteen was stretched over the base, pulling on the bias one way, then the other, and pinned into place. This was then stitched to the buckrum, using back stitch.

The velveteen was then trimmed. A bias strip was then sewn around the edge and hand stitched to the top. Next the bottom was turned under the edge and stitched into place.
The excess was trimmed (about 1 cm)

Trim (pearl beading) was hand stitched on. I stitched after each pearl, for added strength.

Once the decoration was on, I made a lining and hand stitched this in place. I used 2 small haircombs, stitched inside the edge (one each side) to hold the hat on.

Left and right - the final hat, ready to wear. Now what dress to go with.....????

At 12th Night, XXXVIII.
